Therefore brethren, we are debtors not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye mortify the deeds of the body by the Spirit, ye shall live.
Romans 8:12-13 (GNV Translation Ed. 1599)
Good morning in the name of Christ
Friends, what more can be said of this above scripture? Since we are now under grace, our only obligation to our earthly bodies is to do what is needed to continue living. That is to clothe, feed, and generally take care of ourselves. With this service God is pleased, and sees as necessary to live. However, we now take on a new mantel, that is to say one of the living for the Holy Spirit. We are to focus in this direction, in the service of our Creator. And what is our obligation?
Well it was written in yesterday’s post. Firstly we are to love God, and secondly we are to love each other. The former entails the acknowledging of our Heavenly Creator via reading and studying His word, through prayer and supplication, and by worshiping. The latter concerns the needs of others. We must bring the word of the Gospel to them for two reasons. Both are commands by God and His Son Jesus Christ. In the OT, it is found in Ezekiel that we are required to do so, as a watchman would warn the citizens of a city of impending danger. If said watchman failed in his duty, their blood was on his head. However if the latter refused to listen, well he did what he was required of him. In the NT, we are given the great commission, to make disciples of all men.
We can accomplish this in many ways, and service those that are still lost, by our actions, or as the Apostle James wrote our good works. Let them see the love God in you, and through you. Let your actions be louder than mere words. For as the Apostle Paul (in summation here) wrote, if you do not have love, you have nothing, and are nothing more than a brass cymbal, clanging loudly, without purpose.
