1 Thessalonians 4:1-5 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)
1 And furthermore we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that ye increase more and more, as ye have received of us, how ye ought to walk, and to please God.2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God even your sanctification, and that ye should abstain from fornication,
4 That everyone of you should know, how to possess his vessel in holiness and honor,
5 And not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
God wishes, desires for us to be fully committed to Himself. To avoid, nay desire, any and all forms of carnality, or lusts such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality et al. These are things that they who do not know God or His word, Christ Jesus follow after. From these things we must flee. Instead we need to be and act as vessels of holiness and righteousness. (Read Romans 1:22; Ephesians 5:17)

"God's will is that there be continual progress in the lives of believers, leading them to increasing holiness. As they try more to please God, they will become increasingly different from those who do not know God. For example, in relations between the sexes, Christians will not be uncontrolled as the pagans are, but will restrain their sexual passions. If they commit immoral acts they shame themselves and harm others. They also sin against God, for God's purpose in calling people to himself is to make them holy. For this reason he gives his Holy Spirit to live within their bodies."
