1 Thessalonians 2:10-12 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)
10 Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holy, and justly, and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe.11 As ye know how that we exhorted you, and comforted, and besought every one of you, (as a father his children.)
12 That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
The apostle led by example
1 - Worked so as not be a drain on their resources
2 - Exhorted, encouraged, comforted, strengthened and sought out all as would a father
3 - In order that they would likewise lead a life of holiness and righteousness worth of God.
R.P. Woitowitz
“His attitude is parental to the children of God in Thessalonica. He longs to see his children walking with God and can point to his devout, just, and blameless witness to encourage them in this”
Bible Panorama
“It seems they often took from the rest of the night the hours which during the day they had spent in the exercise of their ministry. The apostle often appealed to this proof of his disinterestedness. Indeed, in preaching the gospel, he had no view but to promote the glory of God, and the salvation of mankind. Who observes our most secret actions, desires, and designs; how holy. Toward God, and in the things respecting his worship and service; and justly. With regard to men; and unblameably — In respect of ourselves; we behaved ourselves among you that believe. Who were the constant observers of our behavior. With what earnestness, and diligence, and importunity; as far as God gave us access to you.”
