1 Thessalonians 1:6-10 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)
6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, and received the word in much affliction, with joy of the holy Ghost,7 So that ye were as ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia.
8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord, not in Macedonia and in Achaia only: but your faith also which is toward God, spread abroad in all quarters, that we need not to speak anything.
9 For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God.
10 And to look for his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus which delivereth us from that wrath to come.
Their faith was not kept only unto themselves, but was instead marveled at by much the Asia Minor and beyond. It went unto the very throne of God. He likewise acknowledged it and will protect them from the coming wrath and judgement. - R.P. Woitowitz
"What an infinite mercy it is, when the gospel comes to any of our souls, not in words only, but with the impressive power of the Holy Ghost! This is an evident proof of the favour of God, and of our interest in Christ, which can only be known by its fruits; such as the witness of the Spirit of God, faith, love, and patience under sufferings for Christ's sake; a thorough conversion in heart and life from every idol to the living and true God; a holy imitation of Christ, and of his servants, as far as they follow him; and a hopeful expectation of his glorious coming to deliver us from all our troubles. And how desirable is it to have tokens of God's love, and of the power of his grace, in an eminent degree! Such receive his word with full assurance of its divine truth, excellence, and importance, and, with joy in the Holy Ghost, not withstanding all the tribulations which may befall them for its sake; they are a credit to the gospel, and noble examples to other believers; and are spoken of with admiration and joy to all that hear of them, and love the truth as it is in Jesus."
