An Amazing Prediction

Recently I have taken to listening to pod casts of old radio programs. In particular, I like the old westerns. Now to preface the next few lines most of these podcasts include the commercials that were broadcast at the time. In one of the shows, there came along a commercial that literally caught me off guard; it was for creating an IRA account! Now bear in mind that these broadcasts were aired mostly during the “Golden Age “Radio which ran from the 1930’s up until the late 1950’s. This particular broadcast I believe was aired in 1958.

The reader should now consider that the Social Security Act was first conceived by FDR’s economic committee and was headed by Edwin White and was later passed and enacted by in Congress in 1935.

So what does this tell us? Well perhaps if we read the transcript of the actual commercial we would be amazed to find that it was amazingly prophetic and extremely accurate. Again, bear in mind that this commercial aired 23 years after the Social Security Act. Herein then below is the above mentioned transcript;

“You too can have the advantages of a tax sheltered retirement plan. Corporations have long been able to set aside funds to provide retirement incomes for their employees and defer payment of taxes. Self-employed individuals have been able to save in a KEO (sp ?) plan. Now congress has developed IRA for individuals not covered by other plans. Social Security is NOT ADEQUATE to provide for you when you retire. But when coupled with IRA many people can make their later years worry free. Any wage earner who is not a participant in any other plan may set up an IRA. The sooner you start the better you retirement can be! Get your plan started at….”

Fast forward now some 50 plus years and we find that not only is Social Security insolvent, but so is Medicaid, and Medicare. All of which are run by the Federal Government. Moreover, we, the American public are being told that the feds want to run all of healthcare?
If a bank or an accounting firm, back in the middle of the 20th century could accurately foresee the disaster that was to become social security, then how much prediction will it take to say the same for the coming O-Care?

A Small Argument Opposed to Historical Revisionism

Again I must refer to a podcast of an old time radio show. This particular one was broadcasted via Armed Services Radio.

Basically it is a dramatical rendition of the exploration of the Missouri River and the area of the Louisianna Pruchase of the early 19th century by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.

Now I will freely admit that there exists in this broadcast a bit of embellishment. But again one should view this in the context of making it of interest primarily for the listener and secondly, for the fact that it is indeed a dramatized rendition of the historical facts. However, the fact that it is was presented for entertainment as well as education of our history should not diminish the fact that it was based on the personal journals of the aforementioned Captains Lewis and Clark.

Now the reader may wonder as to how I would know this little tidbit of information.

Well, about a year ago I happened upon an audio book about the exploration of the Missourii River. The audio book was based upon the writings of both Lewis and Clarks’ journals. This broadcast collaborated the both the book and journals.

Yes, yes, I can hear the historical revisionists braying and bemoaning the fact that it was written by dead white men. But they should take note that they ( Lewis and Clark ), were recording their perceptions and exactly what they saw at the particular time in history. It was NOT a recollection or memoir some 10 - 30 years later. No, it was on the spot, at that point in time, a daily written account of the day’s events.
